Roam and Stay

We got this idea of “Roam and Stay” when we heard some of our guests saying that they were finding it difficult to book different accommodation on different nights when they were not sure how far they would walk each day due to the changing terrain and the number of forts, museums and other delights in this area. Some were not exactly clear where some of the accommodation was situated. It was also mentioned that there is an advantage to not unpacking and repacking each day!

This customer feedback together with our location (on the Hadrian’s Wall Trail, on various bus routes including the AD122 - Hadrian’s Wall Bus and quite close to the railway station) has led us to develop our “Roam and Stay” offer.

  Featherstone Castle

If you stay for two or more days we will assist you with your planning, whether you are walking the Wall, visiting some of the Roman Forts, other sites or exploring some of the other excellent walks that this area offers. We can give you a lift to your destination or to an appropriate transport link. We are not offering a full taxi service (for which we are not licensed) but we will drive our clients to various attractions or to link up with public transport services – we are insured to offer lifts to our clients. We are pleased that by offering short lifts and being flexible we are allowing our clients to make the best use of public transport without overly inflating our carbon footprint.

What we have done, in the past, for our clients and examples of the type of thing we can do for you:

  • We have had clients who based themselves at Four Wynds and then walk from Solway through to Heddon on the Wall, over five days using lifts from us, the train and buses.
  • A group of three retired teachers stayed for a week and as well as walking along four or five of the best sections of the Wall, they also visited Alston and walked a section of the Pennine Way. They visited Hexham (with its Abbey and Gaol) and Carlisle with its splendid Castle. We gave them lifts to cover any “gaps” in the local bus and train services.

Let us know about your specific interests and we will be happy to suggest how we think you can best spend your time here.

We also offer discounts on multiple nights’ stays.
